College student John Bendewald embarks on a personal 1000 mile bike journey. John (also known as Polar Bear) departs Wheeling, IL on Friday May 15 with plans to arrive in Duluth, MN Sunday May 24.
John describes 1000 Miles for Humanity as “my independent service project involving me biking 1000 miles in 3 weeks and performing magic shows to raise money and awareness for one of my favorite organizations, Habitat for Humanity.”
All donations (minus expenses) will go directly to the Oakton Community College Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter and subsequently to the chapter’s parent affiliate, Habitat for Humanity Lake County. Expenses include everything needed to fund the actual project; food, lodging, supplies and marketing materials. John says “I want to make it clear that none of the funds will go to me or anyone else on the 1000 Miles team. We will spend only what we must in order to make the project a success. Everything else will go to Habitat.”
