The first annual Edible Book Festival will be held at Sparta Free Library on Saturday, April 21, 2007, from 1-3pm in conjunction with the International Edible Book Festival.
Readers, artists and food lovers of all ages in the Coulee Region are invited to enter and win a prize by creating an edible dish that relates to books and literature. It can be the theme of a book, depiction of a scene, a caracter portrayal, or a pun of the title. You can make your edible dish out of cake, bread, crackers, rice cakes, jell-o, vegetables, flatbreads, seaweed, candy or anything that is truly edible and can sit out for an hour or two without melting or going bad. The entries will be judged, photographed, exhibited, and then eaten.
There will be two classes to enter: Youth -ages 13 and under & Adult - ages 14 and up
Prizes will be awarded in several categories including: "Best Pun", "Funniest", "Best Presentation of Book Title", "Best Presentation of Book Character or Author", "Most Unusual Materials", "Best Show" which is the judges' choice and "People's Choice" which is the public's choice.
