Description
Join herbalist Amy Shea for a day exploring Wisconsin’s lovely spring ephemeral plants.
In the Morning
We will identify and focus our attention on three Spring Ephemerals:
~Wisconsin’s state flower, the wood violet (Viola sororia)
~Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)
~Trilium (Trillium grandiflorum)
What will we talk about:
~Plant characteristics and habitat preferences
~Each plant’s medicinal properties
~Practical use history and modern day research findings
~Contraindications, possible side effects, and cautionary information
~Most common applications for use
~Any herbal folklore and plant spirit wisdom
~We will take time to sit and connect with each of these plants.
We will break for a nourishing lunch prepared for us on site by Donna Justin.
The Afternoon portion of the day will include:
~Discussion on making herbal teas also called tisanes
~We will discuss the difference between an herbal tea, an herbal infusion and an decoction.
~You will have the opportunity to blend your own, which you will get to keep
All materials and lunch are included in this class.
